I figured this would be a forum where people had knowledge of something like this :D

At some point, Michael Kors watches switched from using broad, Rolex-style clasps (see link) to the current, 'clasp-free' look. Does anyone know when?

I think the broad ones are most in the us. The smal ones are more in europe.

The broad claps can be found on older MK watches like the 8077, you are linking too. I have seen it mostly on the 8077 and a few pictures, but I don’t believe there is any differents between the US or Europa.
