Most watches today are - at least up to a rating of "5 ATM", which in theory means it can withstand water-pressure up to 5 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level ...in practical terms it means, that it can withstand normal use like shower or washing. Many 5-ATM rated watches can endure much more than their rating suggests such as swimming, diving at moderate depths and taking a bath (where you have to take into account that the bath water puts an increased strain at the watch because of the temperature - that's why most women take of their watches in the shower or the bath tub even though they otherwise wouldn't - which would be really cool by the way 8) - as the risk of damaging it is increased)
